Lens on Leadership: One step at a time 🥾
Jan 25, 2024So often, when it comes to justice we want change to happen faster. I want there to be more women in leadership. I want our government to reflect the diversity of towns, counties, states, and nations. I want this to happen yesterday! I am encouraged, though, by these words from RBG. Encouraged because it reminds me that we can make change one step at a time and witheach step. We don't climb a mountain but jumping to the top, we do it step by step, bit by bit. So when I am overwhelmed by the magnitude of impacting change or by the road ahead, I remember one step is better than no step. I invite you to think of one step you can take today to effect the change you want to see. Click here for a few more RBG quotes and graphics to be inspired!
Whether I am listening to a constituent, fellow leaders, or my kids, I try to listen to rather than just hear what they are saying. Think about a time where you "listened" to someone only to finish the conversation and not really know what they said. Think of a time when you "listened" to them to simply reply with your own answer... Now remember a time when you felt like that happened to you. It probably didn't feel great, right? The best leaders actively listen, not to answer or argue, but to really engage with the other.
Don't Quit: The Reminder You Need to Hear When You Feel Unmotivated
This won't be the last time you see me reference the Mel Robbins Podcast. Always a good dose of motivation, hard truth, and inspiration, Mel gives it to you straight and usually has you laughing. Sometimes it's hard to remember why I started something, or when setbacks make me doubt my why. This episode was just the reminder I needed to keep going on some of my goals!
