This quote always gets me thinking about how I am showing up as a leader. Am I just trying to be in charge of a situation? Am I just trying to take charge? Or, am I taking care of those in my charge- my community, my family? Whenever I feel a tension in my leadership capabilities, that things just don't feel quite right, I think about this quote and reflect on what I am really trying to do. When I get back to the goal of centering the outcome around the people and community, the decision or action usually starts to be a little bit clearer. I am one that loves learning new things, improving my skills, or tackling new subjects. Over the years, I have become a better leader by taking a course, participating in a cohort, or completing a program. From mindfulness to urban planning to community development, there's been a wide variety of subjects that I've need to learn about to be better at my job but more importantly to show up as a better leader.
